Having lived and worked on the African continent for many years, esengo·art founder Esther knows that the “joie de vivre” of Africans is unrivalled. This energy is reflected in contemporary African art. She is inspired by its beauty: expressive and powerful. Esther started to collect African paintings in 2018 and this has sparked the idea to contribute to increasing the visibility of contemporary African art in the Netherlands and beyond.

Through esengo·art we aim to create a platform where upcoming and established Sub-Saharan African artists can showcase their work. This gives them the opportunity to increase their reach so they can continue nurturing their talent. It also gives people from outside the continent a chance to enjoy a piece of “esengo” and inspiration in their living and working spaces, and gain new perspectives on Africa and its people.
